If you don’t have a family member or friend available to accompany you home after your procedure, Miss Happy Helper is here for you!
I’m Trina, owner of Miss Happy Helper, and I provide professional surgical accompaniment and post-operative recovery support for patients being discharged from UBC Hospital. From meeting you after your discharge and accompanying you home by taxi or rideshare to helping you get settled comfortably, my goal is to make your journey home as smooth, safe, and stress-free as possible.
If you’re scheduled for day surgery at UBC Hospital, your procedure will take place within the hospital complex at 2211 Wesbrook Mall, located on the beautiful University of British Columbia (UBC) campus. Patients are typically admitted and discharged through the hospital’s clinical areas, including the Koerner Pavilion, depending on the procedure being performed. Before your surgery, you’ll receive instructions explaining where to check in, what time to arrive, and what to bring with you.
One of the advantages of UBC Hospital is its peaceful campus setting. Surrounded by mature trees and green space, it offers a quieter environment than many urban hospitals. Because the UBC campus is much larger than many people expect, it’s a good idea to allow extra time to find parking, locate the correct entrance, and complete the admission process before your scheduled arrival.
After your procedure, you’ll spend time in the recovery area while the effects of anesthesia or sedation begin to wear off. Once your healthcare team is satisfied that you’re recovering safely, you’ll receive your discharge instructions before being released to the care of your designated escort.
Because most day surgery patients are not permitted to leave the hospital alone after receiving sedation or anesthesia, it’s important to arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you home before the day of your procedure. If you don’t have someone available, booking your surgical accompaniment in advance gives you one less thing to worry about, allowing you to focus on your procedure and recovery with confidence.
Whether you simply need someone to meet the hospital’s discharge requirements or would appreciate a compassionate helping hand to get you home and comfortably settled afterward, I’m here to help.
