When your parents reach their 70s, 80s, or 90s, something changes. Suddenly, you’re worrying about them more than they’re worrying about you.
Maybe your mom or dad has recently moved into an assisted living community. While knowing they have staff nearby, regular meals, activities, and a safe place to live can bring tremendous peace of mind, it’s completely normal to still worry.
You want to visit often… but life gets in the way. You may work long hours, live in another city, have children of your own, or simply have more responsibilities than there are hours in the day. Before you know it, the guilt starts creeping in and you’re feeling overwhelmed.
If you’re reading this, I already know one thing…
You love your parent very much.
And I also want you to know that you don’t have to do this alone.
You can hire me to check in on your mom or dad.
If you live in the Metro Vancouver area, you can hire Miss Happy Helper to visit your mom or dad in assisted living between family visits.
Think of me as an extra member of your support team. My goal isn’t to replace family. It’s simply to help bridge the gap when you can’t always be there yourself.
What do these visits look like?
Every visit is tailored to your parent’s personality, interests, and abilities. Some visits are filled with conversation and laughter, while others are simply about being there and spending quality time together.
- Sharing a cup of coffee or tea
- Friendly conversation
- Playing cards, board games, or puzzles
- Going for a walk around the property
- Reading together
- Looking through family photos
- Helping with a phone, tablet, or technology
- Attending activities together
- Celebrating birthdays or special occasions
- Simply being a familiar, friendly face
After each visit, I’ll send you an update to let you know how things went, what we did together, how they seemed that day, and anything else I feel would be helpful for you to know while always respecting your parent’s privacy and dignity.
Think of me as another set of caring eyes and ears. We all need support in life… just in different ways.
One of my greatest strengths is making people feel comfortable. I bring a calm, positive energy to every visit, and my goal is for your parent to genuinely look forward to seeing me again.
Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t doing something extraordinary – it’s simply showing up.
Who could benefit from regular visits?
Regular visits may be a wonderful fit if your parent:
- Often mentions feeling lonely
- Has few local family members
- Rarely receives visitors
- Enjoys conversation and social interaction
- Has recently lost a spouse or close friend
- Is adjusting to assisted living
- Would benefit from encouragement to participate in activities
- Simply enjoys having someone spend time with them
Human connection plays an important role in emotional well-being at every stage of life.
I believe in…
Making every visit personal and making every senior feel seen, valued, and remembered.
If you’re looking for someone to visit your mom or dad in assisted living, I’d love to learn more about your situation and discuss how I may be able to help.
