Planning a procedure is one thing… figuring out how you’re getting home afterward is a whole other issue. You’re told you must have someone pick you up, possibly stay with you, and basically be your “responsible adult”… and suddenly you’re sitting there thinking, “Cool… but who exactly is that supposed to be?”
Maybe your family isn’t nearby. Maybe your friends are busy or you don’t feel comfortable asking. Maybe you’ve just moved to the Vancouver area and don’t have that go-to person yet. Or maybe you just don’t want to rely on anyone. All valid.
The reality is, hospitals and surgical clinics won’t discharge you on your own if you’ve had anesthesia or sedation. It’s for safety of course… but that doesn’t make it any less stressful when you’re trying to coordinate everything.
That’s exactly where I step in. Calm, steady, and zero pressure. You tell me when and where your procedure is, and I’ll handle the rest so you’re not left scrambling at the last minute. It doesn’t matter what type of procedure you are having: cosmetic, eye, dental, joint replacement, colonoscopy, laparoscopic, vein, etc.
Option (A) Full-Service Companion: Home -> Hospital or Clinic -> Home Again
If you want someone with you for the whole experience – handled from start to finish – this is the option that takes the pressure off completely:
• I meet you at your home so you’re not rushing out the door feeling stressed or alone
• we head to your appointment together by taxi or Uber – simple, direct, no parking headaches
• I stay with you through check-in and help manage your belongings, paperwork, or anything you don’t want to juggle… and just be a calm presence so you don’t feel alone
• I provide my contact details to the nursing staff so they know exactly who is responsible for your discharge
• I’m there and ready when you’re cleared to leave (no waiting, no confusion)
• I assist you into the ride home when you may be groggy or unsteady
• I make sure you’re safely inside and comfortable once you’re home
• I can stay a little longer to help with light tasks – food, tidying up, prescriptions, getting things within reach
• overnight support may be available depending on your situation
• additional in-home after surgery support can be arranged in the days after your procedure if needed
Option (B) Surgery Discharge Support: Hospital or Clinic -> Home
If you don’t need the full-service experience and just want someone reliable to get you home safely, that works too.
• I meet you directly at the hospital or clinic
• coordinate with staff for your discharge
• get you home safely and settled
Sometimes that’s all you need!
If you’re unsure which option makes the most sense, just reach out and we’ll figure it out together based on your procedure and comfort level.
